The Fit, Style, Sleeves, and More to Consider When Buying a T-Shirt
You could be like the rest of us and spend more time in a t-shirt than any other article of apparel (except your underwear, hopefully). Unfortunately, the simple tee is so ubiquitous that the subtle fitting craft often needs to be noticed. There is no easier way to make your daily appearance more trendy than by taking your time to locate a t-shirt that fits rather than stocking up on basic undershirts.
T-shirts may provide a lot of happiness, but only if they fit correctly, which is trickier than it seems. We hope you'll find our handy guide to help find the right fit.
Style
To some extent, the printed graphics on a t-shirt may override the shirt's material or any other considerations. All other concerns might melt into insignificance after you've fallen in love with the artwork, clever words, quotations, etc., on the front of a t-shirt.
Fits
- Tightness
If a shirt is overly prominent in the chest and waist, it will hang loosely and make you seem boxy. Slim-Fit T-Shirts will highlight your unflattering body parts; even if you're in great shape, a tight t-shirt might make you appear ostentatious. Select a tee with a fitted torso if you're on the lean side to avoid seeming swamped.
- Length
The bottom of your shirt shouldn't reveal too much skin as you raise your arms. An inch or two below your natural waistline is a good rule; it should fall lower than your hips but not to your knees. Yet, in some subcultures, such as skaters, baggy shirts are all the rage.
- Sleeves
Whether you want to know if a t-shirt is a good fit, look at how it fits across the shoulders. The shoulder seam should go from the top of your arm to the middle of your shoulder. If that's the case, the rest of the puzzle pieces should fit together. Likewise, sleeves should fall about midway down the upper arm. However, some men's T-shirt fit types have sewn sleeves for a "muscular fit", accentuating the biceps' shape.
Patterns of T-Shirt Shapes and Designs
T-shirts with crew neck and short sleeves are the most popular designs. T-shirts come in various cuts and colours, and there are many ways to wear them, from tucking them to putting them over one another.
